Aquesta setmana hem fet el compte enrere per una de les nostres celebracions preferides de l’any: HALLOWEEN! Sabem que aquest tema desperta passions entre els defensors de la Castanyada. A Learn English Banyoles ens agrada seguir tant les tradicions catalanes com les anglosaxones.

Amb el nostre alumnat hem estat fent tot un treball sobre la Castanyada vs. Halloween. Amb els grups de primària hem conegut els orígens de Halloween. També com va evolucionar la tradició dels Jack-o-lanterns o carbasses de Halloween. Amb els més grans hem après com All Hallows Eve es va acabar convertint en el Halloween que coneixem avui.

This week we have done the countdown to one of our favorite celebrations: HALLOWEEN! We know that this topic is controversial amongst the defenders of the Castanyada. At Learn English Banyoles we like celebrating both Catalan and Anglosaxon tradidions.

With our students we have worked on Castanyada Vs. Halloween. With the primary groups we have learnt the orgines of Halloween and how the Jack-o-lantern or Halloween Pumpkins tradition evolved. With the older ones we have learnt how All Hallows Eve became Halloween as we know it today.

A FUN ACTIVITY FOR THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS

Ahir en Jack va ensenyar a fer shortbread, les galetes típiques escoceses, als nens i nenes del poble. Van sortir súper bones i la maninada s’ho va passar genial fent aquesta recepta tan senzilla. La volem compartir amb vosaltres perquè la pugueu provar durant les vances, això sí, només en anglès 😉

Yesterday Jack taught the village children how the make shortbread, the typical Scottish biscuits. They were delicious and the children had a great time following this easy recipe. We want to share it with you so that you can try it during the holidays, but only in English 😉

Ingredients:

Method:
1. Heat the oven to 190C.

2. Beat the butter and the sugar together until smooth.

3. Stir in the flour to get a smooth paste. Turn on to a work surface and with a rolling pin gently roll out until the paste is 1cm thick.

4. Cut into rounds or fingers and place onto a baking tray.

5. Sprinkle with sugar and chill in the fridge for 20 minutes.

6. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until pale golden-brown.

7. Cool the biscuits on a wire rack.

IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME!

Després d’un inici de curs intens i emocionant, que no ha deixat massa temps per escriure al bloc, ja tornem a ser aquí!

Per acabar el trimestre de manera divertida i amb un punt de dolç, hem aprofitat una sessió de comunicació oral per a realitzar uns petits Rudolphs the Red Nosed Reindeer amb marshmellows i xocolata.

Després de practicar-ne la cançó, hem fet una recepta senzilla per treballar l’escolta d’instruccions i practicar com demanar el material necessari per portar-la a terme. TOT UN EXIT!

After an intens and exciting start to the school year that hasn’t left us much time to post in the blog, we are back!

To end the first trimester in a fun and sweet way, we have used an oral communication session to make small Rudolphs the Red Nosed Reindeer with marshmellows and chocolate.

After working on the song, we have followed a simple recipe to work on instructions and to practice how to ask for the material needed to complete it. A TOTAL SUCCESS!

BACK TO SCHOOL – Tornen les classes d’anglès!

Tornen les classes d’anglès a LEARN ENGLISH BANYOLES! Després d’una petita pausa per carregar piles, tornem amb un munt d’idees per oferir les millors classes al nostre alumnat.

Les nostres classes i horaris són adaptables. Abans de començar concretarem una entrevista sense compromís per establir els objectius d’aprenentatge. Aquesta és una part molt important, ja que no tothom necessita l’anglès pels mateixos propòsits.

IT’S ROCKET TIME!

So the July edition of our Summer Fun casal comes to an end! 😮
This week was dedicated to the 50th moon landing anniversary 👩🏻‍🚀🌕and we finished it off with a fun activity outdoors.
We combined Science and English with the Rocket Experiment 🇬🇧🚀🚀🙉

L’edició de juliol del casal Summer Fun ha arribat al final Hem dedicat aquesta setmana al 50è aniversari de l’arribada dels humans a la lluna 👩🏻‍🚀🌕 i l’hem acabat amb una activitat divertida a l’exterior.Hem combinat ciència i anglès amb l’experiment del coet 🇬🇧🚀🚀🙈 ▶️ Mireu el vídeo per veure com s’ha enlairat un dela nostres coets! SUMMER FUN – Weeks 1, 2 and 3

We have completed weeks 1, 2 and 3 of our casal d’estiu Summer Fun, and they have been packed with great activities to inspire our students creativity. We have had a BLAST!! Bring on weeks 4, 5 and 6!

Ja hem completat les setmanes 1, 2 i 3 del nostre casal d’estiu Summer Fun, i han estat carregades d’actvitats divertides per inspirar la creativitat dels nostre alumnes. Ens ho hem passat GENIAL!! Endavant amb les setmanes 4, 5 i 6.

SCHOOL FUN! – Extraescolars

Last week we carried out the last session of extracurricular English for this school year, and we finished the lessons with a bunch of fun activities chosen by the students from amongst their favourites. The best way to put what they have learnt into use via activities that they have enjoyed and that motivated them. HAVE A GREAT SUMMER and SEE YOU NEXT SCHOOL YEAR! 🙂

La setmana passada va ser la darrera dels extraescolars a les escoles, i vam acabar les classes amb un munt d’activitats divertides que els mateixos alumnes van poder escollir entre les seves preferides al llarg del curs. La millor manera per posar en pràctica el que han après a través d’activitats que els agraden i els motiven. HAVE A GREAT SUMMER and SEE YOU NEXT SCHOOL YEAR! 🙂

EASTER FUN with Lego WeDo!

During the Easter holidays we added some special fun to our lessons. We painted Easter eggs with a Twist!

Using Lego WeDo, the boys and girls had to create an egg spinner to help them decorate their Easter eggs using felt-tip pens.

They all loved it! 🙂
